He claimed that unknown individuals had etched the numbers 86 47 onto a nearby grassy area and had also targeted the pool’s newly installed surface. The number 86 is often used in the restaurant industry to mean stopwhile 47 refers to Trump’s position as the 47th president of the United States.
Trump alleged that the vandals used chemicals similar to those used on the National Mall to destroy and demean the pool’s new surface. He also claimed that law enforcement is actively investigating the situation and expressed hope that it would be resolved soon. However, the Department of the Interior did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding Trump’s statement.
The Renovation and Its Challenges
The Reflecting Pool, a historic site situated between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, underwent a extensive refurbishment as part of Trump’s efforts to recondition Washington during his second term.
