The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is on the lookout for a dedicated advocacy Officer to spearhead its UN and multilateral engagement efforts from its headquarters in Munich, Germany. The Role of the Advocacy Officer
The Advocacy Officer will be at the forefront of the WUC’s international advocacy strategy, with a primary focus on UN human rights institutions and other multilateral bodies. This role involves coordinating advocacy initiatives, representing the WUC before governments and international organizations, and overseeing project implementation and donor-funded initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess strong research, writing, and public speaking skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. The role requires a minimum of two years of experience in human rights advocacy, policy, or a related field, and a solid understanding of the UN human rights system.
Key Responsibilities
The Advocacy Officer will be responsible for several key areas, including:
- Advocacy and International Representation Leading advocacy initiatives, representing the WUC at international forums, and building relationships with key stakeholders.
- Research, Communications, and Publications Drafting reports, policy briefs, and public communications, and preparing submissions to UN human rights mechanisms.
- Project and Grant Management Coordinating donor-funded projects, monitoring budgets, and preparing donor reports.
- Team Coordination and Operations Supporting the advocacy team’s workflow and ensuring the smooth implementation of advocacy activities.

Global Concerns Over China’s Ethnic Unity Law
The WUC has expressed concerns over China’s new Ethnic Unity Law which came into effect in July 2026. While Beijing claims the law promotes unity and prevents discrimination, the WUC argues that it could further weaken the cultural, linguistic, and religious identity of Uyghurs and deepen assimilation efforts.
The law is part of China’s broader push for a unified national identity. However, critics fear that integration could lead to the erosion of distinct ethnic identities. The WUC urges governments to employ diplomatic, legal, and economic measures against abuses and calls on businesses to tackle forced labor risks in their supply chains.
US lawmakers have sought greater enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act raising concerns over cotton reportedly linked to Uyghur forced labor in the production of Labubu dolls. This highlights the global impact of the Uyghur issue, affecting international trade and corporate supply chains.
