The Abbey, a renowned LGBTQ+ establishment in West Hollywood, became the unexpected setting for a memorable encounter during Pride Month. Former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoffmade a surprise visit to the venue on a Saturday evening, creating a buzz among the patrons celebrating Pride.
The couple, accompanied by a security team, walked through the vibrant venue around 6:30 p.m., engaging with surprised diners. Harris, known for her support of the LGBTQ+ community, extended warm greetings and wished everyone a Happy Pride. The Abbey, adorned with rainbow flags, was already in the spirit of celebration, having just hosted WeHo Pride the previous weekend and being in the midst of LA Pride festivities.

A Spontaneous and Heartwarming Visit
Harris’s visit was unannounced, adding to the element of surprise for the patrons. Misty Violeta drag performer who had hosted the bar’s popular weekend brunch earlier in the day, introduced Harris and Emhoff as they mingled with the crowd. “Thanks for being at The Abbey with us, thanks for celebrating Pride with us,” Violet said, capturing the spirit of the moment.
Patrons were thrilled by the unexpected appearance. Daniel Berillaa West Hollywood resident, shared his experience with WEHO TIMES, stating that Harris “just stopped in randomly for no reason other than to hug people, shake hands and wish everyone happy pride.” Berilla noted that Harris was surrounded by secret service agents but was very engaging with the patrons. “She wasn’t there that long,” he said. “I want to say she was there for about 20 minutes.”
Video footage shared by Berilla shows Harris waving at enthusiastic patrons, shaking hands, and hugging guests. She also posed for photos as she and Emhoff made their way through the crowded venue. The staff at The Abbey were informed shortly before their shifts that the former vice president and second gentleman would be visiting, adding to the anticipation.
