Actor Dan Amboyer marks nearly two decades with Eric Philip Berger

Dan Amboyer and Eric Philip Berger have shared a beautiful journey over the past 18 years, marked by love, family, and personal growth.

Actor Dan Amboyer, renowned for his performances in popular television series such as Uncoupled, Dynasty, and Younger, recently celebrated 18 years of love and partnership with his husband, Eric Philip Berger. The couple’s journey has been a testament to their unwavering bond, showcasing their commitment to each other through various life stages.

Celebrating their journey together

In a heartwarming post on Instagram, Amboyer shared a collection of cherished memories, highlighting their years together. His caption read, “18 years a couple today. 🫶👯”. Among the pictures, the couple’s young children, Teddy and Phoebe, also made an appearance, symbolizing the family they have built together.

From coming out to commitment

Amboyer publicly came out in 2017, a significant moment in his life that coincided with the announcement of his marriage to Berger, a financial advisor. At that time, the couple had been together for over a decade, sharing a home for ten years. Amboyer reflected on the challenges of being an openly gay actor in Hollywood, stating, “Being a young actor, I had many people advising me to stay quiet. It was a tough position to be in.” He admired fellow actors like Matt Bomer and Zachary Quinto for their openness, believing that visibility is crucial in reducing stigma around the LGBTQ+ community.

Building a family

Last year, Amboyer and Berger shared their story with Gay Parent Magazine, detailing how they met through Match.com and their journey to parenthood. Amboyer recalls, “From our very first date, I understood how vital family was to Eric.” They explored various avenues to expand their family, including adoption and surrogacy, before ultimately deciding on the latter. Their first child, Teddy, was born in 2019, while their daughter, Phoebe, arrived in.

Legal hurdles and triumphs

Amboyer and Berger faced legal challenges while starting their family, as surrogacy was not permitted in their home state of New York at the time of Teddy’s birth. They traveled to Georgia for the process, which proved to be an arduous task. However, by the time they were ready for their second child, the laws had changed, allowing them to have Phoebe closer to home. This change significantly eased the logistics of parenthood, particularly with a toddler in the mix.

Reflections on love and advocacy

As Amboyer reflects on their 18 years together, he emphasizes the importance of being open about their relationship and family life. He believes that the more visibility actors like him have, the more it helps foster understanding and acceptance within society. In his own words, “The more public figures are about their lives, the less stigma there is, which will lead to a better future for everyone.”

The couple’s journey is not just a story of love but also one of advocacy, showcasing how their personal experiences can contribute to broader societal change. With each milestone they celebrate, from anniversaries to the arrival of their children, Amboyer and Berger exemplify the power of love and commitment in building a family.
