The Carolina Panthers and Bank of America have solidified their long-standing partnership with a renewed naming rights agreement and an ambitious stadium renovation project worth over $1.3 billion. This initiative aims to transform Bank of America Stadium into a premier destination for sports, entertainment, and community events in the Carolinas.
The collaboration between the Panthers and Bank of America dates back to the team’s inception in the early 1990s. Former Bank of America CEO Hugh McColl played a pivotal role in securing the NFL expansion franchise for the Carolinas, laying the groundwork for a partnership that has endured for decades.
The Vision for Bank of America Stadium
The renovation project is designed to enhance the fan experience and attract major sporting events to Charlotte. The stadium will undergo a comprehensive overhaul, including expanded indoor-outdoor gathering spaces, upgraded seating options, and state-of-the-art technology. The goal is to create a more connected and personalized experience for all attendees.
New renderings reveal a redesigned exterior with a signature illuminated crown, adding a modern touch to the Queen City skyline. The stadium will also feature a 4,400-seat entertainment venue, hosting 80-100 events annually, and providing enhanced hospitality on NFL game days. This venue is part of a broader vision to make the stadium a year-round weekend destination.
Investment and Community Impact
Tepper Sports & Entertainment (TSE) is investing an additional $500 million into the renovation, bringing the total project cost to $1.3 billion. The city of Charlotte originally contributed $650 million to the project, with TSE adding an extra $150 million. The entire project is privately funded, with no additional taxpayer money required.
The renovation is expected to be completed by 2030 and will create a more welcoming park-style setting by removing the black metal gates that surround portions of the stadium. The project also includes expanded retail and food-and-beverage options, increased restroom capacity, and flexible event spaces that will support community, corporate, and other special events throughout the year.
Attracting Major Events
The Panthers are hopeful that the renovation will position Charlotte as a contender to host major events like the Super Bowl, NFL Draft, and the 2031 Women’s World Cup. Team president and TSE CEO Kristi Coleman expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential to enhance the city’s appeal as a sports and entertainment hub.
‘We would love to get a Super Bowl,’ Coleman said. ‘Projects like this help you get it. It for sure helps your resume.’ While the renovation does not guarantee the hosting of such events, it significantly boosts Charlotte’s chances by improving infrastructure and fan experience.
The Panthers have been gathering fan feedback to inform the renovation, ensuring that the upgrades meet the expectations of their supporters. The goal is to create a stadium that offers something for everyone, whether they are sitting in the lower bowl, upper bowl, or luxury suites.
Charlotte Mayor Rob Harrington praised the project as an investment in the city’s future. ‘This work is an investment in Charlotte’s future – preserving an iconic venue, enhancing the fan experience, and ensuring Bank of America Stadium continues to create unforgettable memories while giving visitors countless reasons to return to our city for years to come,’ Harrington said.
