Amber Glenn, the bisexual Olympic figure skater, has teamed up with HBO Max to create a sapphic figure skating video inspired by the hit series Heated Rivalry. This cinematic clip, featuring Glenn and Lena Lemon, is set to the show’s popular song “All the Things She Said” and showcases their incredible technique on the ice while exploring sexual tension.
Filmed at the beginning of June, this Heated Rivalry crossover serves as a perfect way to close out Pride Month and gives fans more content to enjoy as filming for season two of the hit hockey romance series gears up.
Amber Glenn’s Passion for Heated Rivalry
Glenn, who is a huge fan of Heated Rivalry watched the series right before the Olympics. She expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “This is something I’m super passionate about! I wish there was a women’s Heated Rivalry. There haven’t been a lot of out women in figure skating. When I first came out, I wanted to make other people feel comfortable in their spaces. It came out so incredible,” she tells Out.
The Making of the Viral Clip
The viral clip nods to many notable moments featured in Heated Rivalry including the sexy water bottle scene, the dramatic club scene, and one of the first moments where the athletes meet in the locker room. Despite all of the references, there were a couple of scenes that were cut from the final video.
“There’s a lot of things that were cut. There was a tuna melt scene that was so cute and silly. It was like a post-credits scene! That’s the main thing that was cut. There’s so many hidden gems and easter eggs in this! I love the show so much. What’s real and what’s fantasy?” Glenn shared.
The Impact on LGBTQ+ Representation in Sports
Heated Rivalry has started crucial conversations regarding LGBTQ+ representation in sports, and Glenn’s modern sapphic take on the gay love story will inspire many other closeted athletes to live more boldly and authentically.
“We love who we love and we are who we are. We need to show that we exist! We need to stand proud and represent. We’re still, unfortunately, in a time where people aren’t able to accept love in whatever form it might be. We’re really making progress to normalize these things, especially with Heated Rivalry and the media,” Glenn emphasized.
